About Orion Telekom
Founded in 2010 through the merger of three leading ISPs, Orion Telekom is one of the largest telecommunications providers in Serbia, with operations extending into Montenegro and Croatia. The company delivers high-speed Internet, IPTV, and VoIP services to residential customers, alongside enterprise-grade solutions such as connectivity, cloud hosting, cybersecurity, Wi-Fi for enterprises, and Tier-3 data center services.
Beyond traditional telecom offerings, Orion also operates EV charging infrastructure and smart tolling systems in partnership with national road networks, reinforcing its role as a key player in the region’s digital and infrastructure development.
Challenge: Too Many IPs, Too Little Use
Years of steady growth through ISP acquisitions gave Orion Telekom more than just new customers, it also brought in the IP address ranges those networks already owned. With each acquisition, the pool of IPv4 addresses grew, but the number of customers didn’t always keep pace. Over time, Orion found itself in an unusual position: holding almost twice as many IP addresses as it actually needed to serve its active clients.
This surplus created both an opportunity and a problem. On one hand, IPv4 addresses are in high demand worldwide, so unused ranges clearly had market value. On the other hand, when those addresses sat idle, they tied up resources and required management without generating any return.
To get the most out of these assets, Orion needed a solution that could turn unused IP space into steady revenue, but without adding complexity or slowing down operations. It also had to be flexible enough to let the company reclaim IPs at short notice if customer growth suddenly required them.
Solution: From Trial to Scalable Monetization
Looking for the best way to put their surplus IPv4 addresses to work, Orion explored different platforms for leasing unused IP space. After reviewing the options, they decided to run a small trial with a /24 block on Heficed (the earlier version of what would later become IPXO).
The process proved simple: the IPs were listed quickly, matched with vetted lessees, and began generating revenue without disruption to Orion’s existing services. Encouraged by these early results, the company gradually expanded the number of ranges on the platform.
When IPXO officially launched, Orion’s monetization efforts gained even more momentum. The platform introduced greater automation, a more intuitive onboarding process, and faster, more responsive support – all of which reduced the need for manual work by Orion’s technical team.
Instead of lengthy email exchanges or manual approvals, the team could now manage their IP portfolio through a self-service dashboard, making updates in minutes rather than hours.
With IPXO, Orion can:
- Lease unused IP space directly to vetted lessees through a secure, transparent marketplace.
- Retrieve IP ranges whenever new projects or customer growth require them.
- Operate with zero additional maintenance costs, keeping monetization profitable and efficient.
Impact: $400K in New Revenue

Since joining IPXO, Orion has generated $371,000 directly from the platform, plus $30,000 from its Heficed period. Operational efficiency has also improved: onboarding subnets now takes minutes instead of hours, and managing the portfolio requires minimal staff time.
The platform’s flexibility also allows Orion to respond to shifting market needs – scaling up monetization during slow periods and reclaiming addresses when customer growth accelerates.
Future: Monetization Growth Ahead
Orion Telekom is during a strategic shift, moving its focus away from the residential B2C market and concentrating primarily on B2B services. This transition means that many IPv4 ranges currently in use for consumer services will soon become available for leasing.
Instead of leaving these resources idle, Orion plans to channel them into the IPXO platform, building on the proven success of its current monetization program. The flexibility of IPXO’s system will allow Orion to release large numbers of addresses when business demand is low and quickly reclaim them when needed for enterprise clients.
With IPXO, Orion has been able to turn what was once an underused asset into a reliable revenue stream and, as the business evolves, the platform will remain a key part of how Orion adapts and grows in a competitive telecom market.
